[i]theoldmelody posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: UI question

Hi all!

I haven't made many changes to my UI, but the one addon I can't seem to go without anymore is Fubar.  I like how much you can customize it, and the number of different plugins you can get for it is a plus.  Unfortunately I've been having a lot of problems with it lately.  I'm pretty sure I have the most updated version of it as well as all of the plugins, but it still isn't working.  Do you guys have any suggestions of something similar?  I've tried Chocolate Bar and didn't really like it that much.

Also, I wouldn't mind trying out a new UI, something very clean with not a lot of clutter.  I'm fine with the default, but if you guys have any suggestions that you really like, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for any help!  :D

[i]spartonian posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: Saurfang 25

For those of you having fun in ICC 25, how is your DPS doing on this fight? We have a wicked awesome Rogue doing ~9k, three melee ~7.3-7.5k, and then a bunch of 4-5k (none of the ranged have consistently broke 5500 on this fight). Most of the 4-5k group are ranged DPS crazily trying to kill Bloodbeasts.

Our Bloodbeast control needs to get better, but I'm concerned the DPS isn't doing as well as they could either.

Edit: Our best attempt.

[i]tchernobyl posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: Healing is...interesting.

So in an effort to get my DK more primordial saronite for a future frostmourne, I leveled my 3rd closest to 80 char to 80, a paladin, who dinged 80 at about 1 am this morning. I had planned my 80 spec as a healer, as I figured that would be fast queues (though apparently tanks are even faster than healers, according to some i pugged with? Interesting.) So in the process of leveling and whatnot, I crafted myself two epic titansteel healing pieces, and found some 78 to 80 blues and whatnot to, well, not be in *too* many leveling greens when I hit heroics.

Which I pretty much did immediately >_> This is his armory.

It's... more challenging than I thought it would be. Mostly, though, getting used to my button configuration (I set up some buttons in healbot, and am still unfamiliar with the mouse buttons I configurated *myself*. Doh.)... Learning the mechanics and whatnot.

So far, I've only caused two wipes, mostly from getting overwhelmed and forgetting to dispel either myself or the tank or something. Working on that dispelling stuff :P

But yes... all heroic: Utgarde Keep, Azjol Nerub, Halls of stone, Nexus with guildees, and finally Gundrak...

where this sight greeted me o.O notice the group composition.. )

Anyways. Any tips on spec, and such? gear obviously needs improvement, but I'm working on that! (mmm delicious badges...)

[i]missbeasto posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: I don't quite know what I'm looking for.

I have been playing for a couple of years now, and I still have never managed to get any of my toons over 30 until now. I actually just went through and deleted a bunch that I haven't touched in over a year and weren't very attached to. I am 50% altoholic and 50% ... bored. I guess.

I am impressed that I've leveled Ivalisse, my Belfy Hunter to nearly 40. I think that I am going to stick with her as my main and still be somewhat of an altoholic... as long as I promise myself not to neglect her.

I'm too much of a solo player. I have no idea how to change my style of play to include other people which pretty much means all I do is run around doing quests and leveling alone. I've had a couple of Co-Workers who last summer, insisted on running me through a few instances so I could get some better gear in preparation for hitting 40 on Iva (which I am about a level and a half from now finally haha) but that's about it.

Which is fine - most of the time I like to be alone, WoW is totally my way of winding down after a rough day at work. But sometimes I read posts in the various WoW communities and I kind of miss playing with others like I did when I still played FFXI. I feel like I am missing something by having a vanity guild, and that I am missing out on fun and drama and something just... essential .. and that when/if I ever want to raid or do anything but grind out levels, that I will have absolutely NO CLUE what I am doing.

I am probably a pretty suck player, which is fine since I solo so much. My UI is probably crap. My Addons are probably a hoot.... But I think it would be fun to learn and expand because I do love WoW.

I am very much a casual player. I have a boyfriend who never uses his computer unless it is to check email, and I have a strange work schedule (and a lot of hours) so I've always been pretty much afraid to join a guild because my few friends who DO play, tend to want someone who has a lot of time to commit to various things, which I don't have. While I do log on pretty much every day, skipping a few here and there, it is at different times and I can't often commit to doing things as a group for lengthy periods.

I guess what I am looking for is either... a fairly active SOCIAL guild that is more focused on friendship, helping each other out etc on Feathermoon (US) where my main is, or a group of people who'd like to start out newbies together for similar on whatever Server and Faction. Or both! I think it would be fun to gather a group of strangers together to start out as newbs, build a guild and grow together from the ground up!

[i]strange_venus posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: I'll jump on this "OMGFAILPUGTOOL" bandwagon....

So.... Actually... I've had an EXCELLENT time in mostly all of my PUGs.

-I've geared myself pretty well, when otherwise I wouldn't have a chance of getting into a heroic group (80 Mage with BAD BAD gear to begin with).
-I've had success at getting better gear for my off spec Holy Pally. (And helped my darling husband with his Pally Off Spec-Ret get gear, too.)
-Met some pretty nice off realm people.

Yeah... I've had to tell people "Hey, I don't tell you how to play your char. Please, don't tell me how to play mine." twice. It didn't bother me, as it;s a common oocurance on ALL realms I play on. So why get butt hurt?

Yeah... I've had players do stupid things. "Hey, you pull, you tank. Don't want to tank, don't pull. Please wait for the healer." But ya' know... It's not *THAT* bad.

Over all, I LOVE THE TOOL. I'm very happy with it.

[i]rufushonkeriv posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but...

I got a World of Warcraft game time card for Christmas from my mother in law.

It was a very nice gesture, though I already pay each moth to play.  It feels a little useless, even though I know I can hold onto it for lean months when saving $15 for two months would be handy, and I know I could potentially give it to a friend who wants to try out the game (though all my friends who have picked WoW up for a bit get bored and move on, or the one who likes it plays for a half hour every four-six days and has fallen into the "how come you're always on your 80" syndrome).

SO...  I was wondering if there are any other imaginative things to do with the card I may not have thought of. I'm probably going to let it sit until needed, but just like looking up your class and thinking up every conceivable use for your class abilities, I wanted to know any ideas to use a gift card I hadn't thought of. Thanks!

EDIT:  I already have a Zhevra mount, but that's still an idea for an alt.

[i]develsaa posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: Transmute Mastery

Hello,

So, It's been roughly 6 weeks since I've had a transmute proc. I realise it's an RNG, but that seems very excessive to me, should I wait, or should I contact a GM and see if I am bugged? Has anyone else had this problem? I used to proc every few days or so.

Edit // Thank you all for your responses! After testing it for a few hours and not receiving any procs I opened a GM ticket. I was told that the game was showing that I did not have Transmute Mastery learned, even though I did, and he 'reset' it for me, the moment he did, I started proccing again. Heh, anyways, Thank you!!

[i]daxipadz posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: Hello All

Hi all,

I know I am just mimicking the previous posters of “I’m a noob and I have never played WoW before”.. but I haven’t. I played a little FFXI but that’s about it.

I do have a few questions though;

1.       I chose a Dark Elf Hunter, I did the few quest in my area and learned a tracking ability, now what?

2.       Is there a place where people hang out so that I can meet people? I did a say when I first entered and no one really wanted to chat or introduce me to WoW so I just kind of killed things and tried to figure things out (I lost a lot of money selling and buying back items I sold on accident). I like the social aspects of MMORPG so I am looking for people to hang out with and make friends.

3.       Is Money hard to come buy? In FFXI there was an Action House that acted as income, does this have a sort of Action House?

4.       Is their group battles and XP parties. So far I have hit level 4 just doing quest and killing things in the forest (mostly bores and tigers).

5.       Can you switch jobs, and how so? Which job do you all think would be good for me, I like to do damage, but I also like support, when I played FFXI I was a Ranger, Summoner, and Bard.

6.       Now that the game is 4+ years old, is it still worth it?

Also is there any type of etiquette that I need to be aware of, such as not attacking the same beast at the same time?

Thanks in advance for the advise.

[i]sarx_phagos posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: I am a WoW noob, and I need some suggestions.

Hello All. I am interested in playing WoW, but I really don't know where to begin. I'll explain myself.

Not too long ago I bought the 14-day trial of the game, and I'm going to install it tomorrow. However, the biggest question I'm sure most new WoW players ask themselves is: "Which class should I be?" So...which class should I be? I did one of those lame quizzes on another phishing site (please don't ask, I still have that "dirty feeling"), and it suggested I play as a Rogue. From what my WoW friends told me, a large percentage of people play as Rogues anyway. I was hoping that lame quiz would suggest a class that is rarely played.

Just so you all know, I am not an MMORPG noob. I played MapleStory for quite a while, and I want to play something more grown-up.

So...since my question is related to character class, please help me with your suggestions based upon my preferences.
1) I want to be a class that can level quickly;
2) I want to be able to take a beating and not die from a scratch, but I don't want to be a "tank" or a "damage dealer" exlusively;
3) I want to be unique, but I'll pick something more generalized if that class honors the first two criteria.

What do you all suggest? Should I be a Rogue, or something different. If I really like this trial I'll probably play this game on a regular basis if/when I get a new laptop. Thank you for your time and help.

~~Nick

I have a real quick request here: can anyone throw out some names of some PvE servers with reasonably high/active Horde populations? I know PvE server pops can skew pretty heavily toward Alliance, and I could probably find the info I want slogging through census site data, but if anyone can offer up some suggestions off the top of their head I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Does anyone know how to turn off the fog effect in ICC? I used two commands that gets rid of shadows and the "mist" at Hrogthar's landing but it didn't do anything for the fog inside ICC. It kills my FPS a lot and I've been looking for ways to get it disabled. I have all my settings at minimum with a lot of options turned off. Help appreciated.

[i]neuroxin posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: Moderation Time

Hello everyone! It's your friendly neighborhood moderator, [info]neuroxin, here and I'd like to have a short talk with all of you.

The new LFG system has certainly created opportunity for lots of good and bad group experience posts! It has been pointed out to me that many of our posts lately have been angry rants about bad players. These are unfortunately often fraught with generalizations about classes and class roles and those that play them. Quite frequently of late I've been contacted personally about particular posts and comments.

I'd like to remind everyone about our community rules, particularly Rule 4, and about one of our sister communities, [info]dear_gnome. This is not to suggest that you shouldn't continue posting about your LFG experiences here, not by any means. But if your post seems to appropriately begin with "Dear [Generalized Player Group] then it's likely to belong more appropriately on [info]dear_gnome. Please just be more mindful of your tone and to whom you're directing your rant. Lately several posts have fallen into the category of trolls and flamebait these posts are being removed and will continue to be.

Lastly, I'd like to remind everyone that [info]worldofwarcraft moderation needs your help in identifying problem posts and comments. My contact information is on the community userinfo page so I'd like it if everyone felt free not to hesitate in contacting me.

Thanks!

[i]mroverthetop posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: Dear Mr/Mrs Random LFG Hunter.

Hi, i'm a warrior tank. I have to hit things before you to insure that I get aggro so you don't have to stress the healer out while you song and dance kite things as if you say.."I don't need your silly logic in dungeons, I can just solo everything"

Great sir, if thats the case why did you bother joining a dungeon? Solo the instance yourself.

and when I say.."I'm not going to chase mobs you attack before i get to it.." and your response is.."thats fine.."

then proceed to multishot EVERYTHING BEFORE I GET THE FIRST HIT OFF.

Does not make me happy.

P.S. Dear Mr DK crybaby QQ butthurt pants. Don't ask to be booted from a Pit of Saron group..and I quote.."There is competition for the axe, and I'd rather not save myself to an instance where im not guaranteed the axe if it drops"..

You make me want to punch you in the face with really large shards of glass inbetween my fist. Look, I understand wanting to get gear, and especially if its easy...but WHY should we give you the benefit of not having a deserter buff just because you don't want to have to roll against anyone.

You could spend all day looking for a group with a nonplatewearer. and there's no guarantee a warrior/pally tank wouldn't roll against you so now your looking for a druid tank with no 2h melee dps. why not just sit in lfg channel and go.."QQ DK looking for group PoS, no 2h dpsers plz kthx" and see the absurd reaction to your request.

/Rant Off

Tossed myself into an LFG by myself this morning and when I finally got into the dungeon, I discovered one of my fellow pugs was a guildie! What are the odds? Has anyone else had this or something similar happen to them?

Also, is there a way I can disable combat sound effects so all I can hear is the voice acting of the bosses? They say such wonderful things sometimes, but the noise of hitting stuff and pew pew tend to drown it all out.

[i]_whenstarsbleed posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: My very first bad random PuG experience.

So, I queue up for a random heroic, get into a H PoS with two bosses down. Normally, I don't like going in after bosses have died, but I decided to give it a shot. As soon as I zone in, I mount up and head towards where the other party members are. They didn't clear some of the adds, and I pull one. While I'm running for my life, a mage says "Warlock. Summon me. Now."
????
I told him that I had an add on me, and porting in was just as efficient. Someone else said that the mage didn't want to run in. I told him it was too bad, because I had to run in. Note: I probably would have summoned him, if he'd asked, instead of demanded. We sat around for about 5 minutes, all the while, the mage was making snide remarks about how he'd just sit in Dalaran until the lock decided to summon him. I informed him that he should just have fun sitting there until he decides to be civil about it. Finally, he runs in. More rude remarks ensue. The paladin tank pulls the adds. I start beating down the Flame guy, and pull aggro, soul shatter, then get a damage debuff. The healer lets me die, not even bothering to toss any kind of heal on me.
I say, "Oh, nice heals there." The healer tells me that if I wanted heals, I should have summoned his friend. And that he's not really in the mood to heal
????
A few seconds later, everyone except the tank dies from the damage debuff, because the healer was too busy talking smack to me to notice that his friends were dying, too. I have a good laugh, and the mage tells the tank to kick me. I say fuck it, and leave, because I don't have to deal with rude people.

I know this is just a lot of QQ, but I really just don't understand why people from other servers find that it's alright to be rude to people not from their server. I'd understand if I'd caused them to wipe, or if I put out incredibly low DPS numbers, or just acted like an idiot in general. But I didn't. I simply didn't summon a guy who was rude to me.
The biggest downfall to the random LFG system is the sudden loss of common courtesy, cross-realm.

[i]tsgeisel posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: Timing is everything

So, for me, the instance server I'm in is in a different time zone than my regular server. So in the middle of the run I see that it's 8:30pm, when in *my* time zone it's actually 6:30pm. Fortunately, I didn't panic, but it definitely took a moment to recover from that, and fortunately we were at the end of the instance, rather than the beginning.

Still - I feel it's worth being annoyed about, and so worth complaining about here. Blah, blah, blah. And, yes, I could probably make sure the time on the clock is set to my local time, rather than server time, but that's messed me up in WG in the past, when they've been off by a couple of minutes.

[i]toni_molko posting in [i]worldofwarcraft: Starfall

I have a question for all you balance druids.

I was on vent the other day with a friend of mine, and he was complaining about a boomkin using starfall in instances that he was tanking, I think because it pulled extra mobs

I said surely it's ok to use it if you glyph it (the glyph cuts the range in half), and he said no, duids should never use starfall in instances. I asked in what circumstances they should use it, since it seems to me that it wouldn't be that effective in pvp as the effect is cancelled if you change forms or get stunned. He said yeah, there and no circumstances in which starfall should be used.

Please tell me he's wrong! He doesn't play a druid so I would take what he says with a grain of salt, but he's usually very knowledgable about pretty much all classes and specs, and spends a lot of time reading up on things.

It seems stupid to me that druids would get a 51 point talent that's completely useless (when I said as much he said yeh, that's what sucks about boomkins). I've not had any trouble with it on my baby druid since I glyphed it, but have a I just been lucky?
